Marine Bands

In talking to Joe Filisko abot SBS's and their lack of airthightness he
said that he didn't think that it was leaks between the reed plates and
the comb. I don't know what he percieves as the actual problem. In HIP
#4 the price for a Joe Filisko tweaked Marine Band was listed as $40-$50.
In the midst of all the overblow postings some one said maybe 5 overblow
is different on a C harmonica, That maybe you could get the F# and not a
G. F# is what you get. The limit here is the higher note of the pair.
In this case the F. The F can only be overblown up to within about a
semi-tone of it's original value, in this case F#. This is true of all
overblows, overdraws, and bends. You always end up about a semitone
above or below the lowest or highest reed of the pair. Two very good
sources of more information on this phenomenon are HIP#4 and Steve
Baker's excellent book the Harp Handbook. FJM
