Re: Do the Strnad.....

I have the cheap 10 hole strand without volume control.
I've used it on and off fro a while. I think it sounds
great, but you can't get that overdrive sound from
it. It faithfully reproduces the harp sound and can
sound reedy if you play through the PA or an
amp with good freq response or lower volume.

It is loud across all holes in the harp so there is
no worry when you move to the high end of positioning
the mic in the right place. You can turn up the amp
much higher without getting any feedback.

Since the mic pretty much replaces the cup of your
hands you get an average to good mute sound which
can be varied a little by covering the hole in the mic.

It sounds near perfect for country blues, but not enough
funk for Chicago style. I use it when I Jam and I am
interested in hearing my mistakes, warts and all. I can
tune it up loud enough to come through over our
obnoxious and loud lead guitarist (my cousin Joey,
I have to put up with him, he's family).

It only fits marine bands or special 20's. My
Big River's don't fit. If you play Lee Oskar, I'd
try putting a harp in to make sure that it fits.

The main draw back is that the astatic or shure mics
look much better. Playing the Strand looks like you
are sucking on an electric razor. (which is better
than the rodent look).
