Re: Echoplex

Sam Phillips, owner and for several years sole engineer at Sun Records
in Memphis and who recorded not only the first sides by Elvis but the
first by James Cotton, Walter Horton, Howlin' Wolf, Joe Hill Louis and
several other fine harp players, got what he called a "slapback" effect
by linking two Ampex tape decks in the studio. He'd run the original
recording signal through the second deck; the resulting delay gave him
that sound.
