Two points here. *Both* bits of software will sometimes sit
there for AGES, telling you they are recieving responses, when if you
look, they have timed out. The little red stop button has gone out (on
Netscape,) but they are so stupid it still think they are connecting.

I had this for over half an hour with Netscape this week, while I was
busy with something else (real work, for the dept.) :-(

The other thing is that Mosaic has am image of the world in the top left
hand corner. When it it trying to connect this world rotates and (on a
colour monitor) a yellow band runs round the thing. If you click on
this, it will stop the connection.

As I say however, this week I have seen BOTH bits of kit *think* they
are connection, when the (a) red button has gone out, (b) world has
stopped revovling [sigh]

As to which is faster, I sent the best comment on it all that I have
seen so far, from my computer communications guru a few days back. This
last few week, Gopher, Mosiac, Netscape and IRC have spent more time
hanging up and not connection than they have before.

JUst bear this important fact in mind:- New net users are coming on line
at a rate of TWO PER SECOND! Its no wonder its slowing down!

Until these USA firms who are waiting to launch their comms Sats. in
space get on with it, it will get WORSE!

(One company has a set of 80 Sats, and rocket launchers waiting, the
whole lot cost LESS the the toilet on the space shuttle, according to
them!)

Cheer yourselves up with this thought. We are *VERY* lucky to be able to
play with this technology at all. We are still in the minority. It's
still in it's early stages too.

One day when we are old and grey, we will be able to look back ans say,
"Yes, I was in at the start of all that stuff." (I am fast getting to
look old and grey anyway, I look more like a badger every day):-)

But I don't care, I'm happy!.

computers) Jackson.
