I agree, and point out that he indeed played harps other than marine band. 
His chromatic third position work is instantly recognizable.  Little Walter
was anything but traditional.  The fact that his harp work, although from an
era 4 decades back, is still stylish and unique today, is eloquent testimony
to this.
