Re: Spirit Harp Pro or RI Bassman?

Hi:

Not to further confuse the issue, but it's worth
giving some thought to some of the old Gibson amps, if
you haven't already.

Even in my young Gotta-Be-Fender days, I was always
blown away by the sound of harp through the little
Gibsons. Now, in my old age, I've picked up a 1950
GA-30; it's got two 6V6s pushing one 12-inch and one
8-inch. The harp sound is unbelievable -- big, brown,
dirty in a very musical way. Imagine George Smith, or
Rod Piazza doing George Smith

The old GA-20, GA-17, GA-19 -- you name it, they all
howl. And there are a couple that stack up like
boutique harp amps, long before there was such a
thing: the GA-46 with four 8s and the GA-90 with six
8s.

Guitar players don't seem to like 'em much, but that
just helps us harp players by keeping the prices down
(somewhat). Anyway, they're all over Ebay. Keep your
eyes peeled and be patient. And my apologies to Fender
and Spirit -- both of which I'd love to have too.

One question for the crowd: What's the conventional
wisdom on having different-sized speakers in the same
amp? I love it; a 12 and an 8 seem like the best of
both worlds for harp. But I'm curious whether they
push as much air as identical speakers or instead
cancel each other out to some degree.

Cheers,
Lusaka Slim
