I agree with everything Mojo, Alec and Little Johnny said.  I think you just 
have to set a standard for yourself.  Our standard is $100 per band member per 
gig.  We have 6 members so that's $600.  That's what we try to get.  Now, we 
still do lots of gigs for less, if its a good venue with good visibility, like 
a big name club, or a festival with touring artists.  We do more private 
parties then clubs.  They typically pay more than clubs.  When negotiating with 
a client, we often remind them that a 3 hour gig is a 6 hour job when you fold 
in travel, set-up and tear down time in the front and back.
