Daily Almanac - March 6

Blues singer, guitar and harmonica player Walter "Furry" Lewis was born on
this day in 1893. Lewis began his playing career early, around 1900, played
with WC Handy's band a few years later, then spent most of the rest of his
life, from the 1920's around Memphis. His career revived when folklorists
rediscovered him in the late 1950's.

Country harmonica pioneer Floyd "Salty" Holmes was born on this day in 1909.
Holmes developed one of the more distinctive styles in early Country music
and was a member of the Grand Old Opry for several years.

Composer John Philip Sousa died on this day in 1932. Sousa was a big
supporter of harmonica as a great instrument for young people who wanted to
learn music. One of his last marches was written for the Hoxie harmonica
marching band.

That's all I have for today. Have fun and practice.
