Live Recording (limited harp content)

hey y'all,

seeing as how so many musicians are, not surprisingly, audiophiles, i
thought i'd ask if anyone has tips on recording live shows. i've been given
permission to video tape a live concert. i'm essentially a total amateur who
happens to own a digital videocamera. i'm very concerned with the audio, and
would like to pick up as much of the music and as little of the bar chatter
as possible. the camera (a sony dcr-trv320)has a microphone of course,
though i do have another mic (sony ECM-DS7OP) i could attach. problem is, i
think the external mic might actually pick up MORE noise, not less. either
way, i'm likely to get alot of ambient noise mixed in with the band. any
tips?
p.s. -- any New Yorkers might want to show up at Terra Blues on Saturday,
about 7pm. There'll be more harp hounds playing than you can shake a stick
at.

     thanks,
          --Jp
