Daily Almanac - September 13

I have no events to report for today.

One subject that they don't seem to teach in schools these days is
self-reliance. It's truly a shame because self-reliance is one of the most
important traits that a person can have. I heard a major politician
yesterday say that 70% of college graduates can't find a job. My question
on that statistic is; how many schools require that students learn how to
get a job?

For artists and musicians there are thousands of grants, etc. to help them
in their projects. While this is a good thing, I also believe that it would
be an even better thing for artists and musicians to learn how to make what
they do a part of their world. If you wish to be a part of the economic
environment, you should learn how to be a part of that environment, not have
your role handed to you.

Self-reliance gives you freedom. If someone says it can't be done, prove
them wrong. There is an immense satisfaction to be had by defying the odds.
