Chicago Blues/Jazz harmonica player Rhythm Willie was born on this day.  We
think it was in 1910.  There is little known about the life of Rhythm
Willie, but he left us a number of recordings that are simply remarkable in
their playing technique.

Blues singer, guitar and harmonica player Silas Hogan was born on this day
in 1911.  Hogan learned to play the harmonica in his teens while growing up
in the Baton Rouge area.  His style was reflective of the Swamp Blues style
and he recorded about half a dozen albums before he died in 1994.

Blues harmonica player Snooky Pryor was born on this day in 1921.  Pryor was
a boyhood friend with guitarist Jimmy Rogers growing up in Mississippi.
While serving in the army during WWII, Pryor began playing through PA
systems and used that sound when he moved to Chicago after the war.

Three of the best; Rupert Oysler, who was born on this day in 1948, Bil
"wild Willy" Gausman, born on this day in 1951 and Gary Onofrio, who was
born on this day in 1955.  They're all celebrating birthdays today and each
has added greatly to the world of harmonica.  happy Birthday to each and
every one of you!!!

The great Leo Diamond died on this day in 1966.  Diamond began his career
playing in harmonica bands and later worked extensively in Hollywood,
playing in movies.  His albums often experimented in new technologies that
were emerging during the 1950's and early 60's.

Blues guitar and harmonica player Elmon "Driftin' Slim" Mickle died on this
day in 1977.  Mickle learned to play from Sonny Boy I and later played with
Sonny Boy II.  His career spanned from the 1940's until his death.
