[Harp-L] Reverb and delay

Recently Richard Hunter posted about the
batterty-opedrated amp Roland Cube, that comes loaded
with amp modelling and several effect ? including
delay and reverb. Richard commented thayt every harp
player shouild have a dedicated reverb and delay unit,
which got me thinking...

1. What is the difference between reverb and delay? I
think they are both echos, repeated sounds that decay
on the repeat, where reverb has a shorter delay time.
Is that right?

2. In my mind, they serve the same purpose, to warm up
the sound, make it sound bigger, and place it in a
spacial context. What would make you want to use
reverb rather than delay and vice versa?

Your thoughts, dear harpers, please...
