To help you conceptualize- imagine.....

Reverb-  Play harmonica in a public bathroom or stairwell. Sound hangs in the air after you finish playing for a second or two.

Delay - play harmonica in the Swiss Alps, it is repeated back to you after a short period of time (Like yelling "Hello" and hearing back "hello    hello    hello".

Controls on the units let you dial in how long/short the time periods are involved, as well as the intensity.

Use is subjective, as are spices for a good chef.
