[Harp-L] Harmonica Convergence/Contest NH

Chapel Arts New England's first annual Harmonica Convergence and Contest takes place Saturday, August 28, 2004. During the Convergence, from 2 to 6 p.m. in the concert hall, beginners, casual players, and contestants are invited to come jam, learn techniques, swap tunes, and check out the acoustics. A diatonic harmonica in C major is encouraged for group playing sessions, but all types of harmonicas are welcome.

The harmonica playing contest begins at 7:30 p.m. All styles of acoustic playing are encouraged, including traditional, classical, sacred, avant garde, international, blues, rock, jazz and country. The grand prize for contestants is $100. Harmonica players may have up to two live acoustic accompaniests, no recorded back-up is permitted. The number of contestants is limited, so players are encouraged to apply early. Final registration time is 2 p.m. the day of the contest. There is a $10 fee to register. Harmonica duos, trios and ensembles can register as one entry. Additional rules are available with registration. Winner(s) will be determined by adjudication by the president of the Historical Harp Society with input from the audience. To register telephone (603) 466-2129, e-mail the director: schilke@xxxxxxxx, or stop by during Art Gallery hours: noon to 6 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Chapel Arts New England is the white church at the southeast corner of Routes 2 and 16, facing Gorham Town Common, in Gorham, New Hampshire. Any proceeds from the contest and audience donations go towards the restoration and renovation of the church.
