Subject: [Harp-L] amp mod

i am trying to find the rod mod for the tweed bassman that john kinder of
harp king does.i have an original 59 and dont want to chance damage by
sending it.

Hi Kathy,
I own an original '59 Bassman and play it totally unmodified and use the
original tube configuration it calls for 12AY7-12AX7-12AX7-5881-5881-5AR4,
which is what the amp calls for from preamp to rectifier tube. The only
thing you may want to do is get the antifeedback box that they sell. You'll
also risk devaluating it's resale value, and as of 6 months ago, a real '59
Bassman goes for as much as $6500 a pop. Best thing is to retube with NOS
tubes (new old stock). The only other thing some players do is use a 5U4GB
rectifier tube in place of the5AR4/GZ34 rectifier tube, but if you were to
go this way, make sure that you take the amp to amp tech who specializes
specifically with vintage amps and have the amp rebiased first.
