Stardust Memories' under Mickey Raphael. I have not been able to locate such a title under Mickey or Willie Nelson. I thought maybe he meant Willie's plain old Stardust ...

Hello John :

When I got my first paid steady gig it was with a country western band , my cousin played a P-Bass with them and told me to get two albums " Stardust & Honeysuckle Rose " to impress the lead guitar leader of the band , it was in around 1977 and most my chops were Blues / Jazz / Rock and Standard flavoured and not country sounding over all . I bought them and flipped out on Mickey Rafael's style of smooth . It took some serious wood shedding but nothing is impossible when you want it bad enough and all things being more or less equal in the situation of myself being a player with some experience to begin with and a certain amount of talent . I got the gig because I was able to soundly cop Mickey's chops on those albums , the band was a 4 piece with myself as the last to join the band . I played 3 years total and worked about 2 years with this group professionaly . It was the beginning of my professional musical career . Mickey Rafael is by far in a league of his own . Work on learning his chops and you will learn some really tastie and graceful stuff , I did . And - - - - Speaking of grace .......

Charlie McCoy is one of the people that in Micky's own words influenced him big time , and I bought some albums of Charlie McCoy's stuff ( " Nashville Hit Man " is a hot album ) at the recommendation of the lead guitar player's advice once I was in the band , soon after realizing how strongly Charlie McCoy's style influenced Mickey Rafael's . I realized I was also being hit hard too and was emanating some of these classy swinging sounds that Charlie & Mickey made and now I made automatically too in time , because the melodic lines they play are so smoooooooooooooooooooooove gaaawwwacefwul . Its addicting . Charlie McCoy has to be somewhere up there with Coltrane & Bird . Everytime I listen to him I learn something . John ,have a blast learning that stuff man , because I sure as heck did and the memories of that music period of my life are super special to me .

Sincerely :

Hurricane Ramón
