[Harp-L] Bose PAS

Hey list,
my band has been researching & considering the PAS system for about 6
months. I have seen a band using it (Brothers Groove in the Detroit area - they
sounded great with it) & I have demoed the system with acoustic harp & guitar at
Guitar Center. I liked it for acoustic harp. By most accounts it is a great
sounding system for small sized venues & low or medium volume bands.
Keyboard players love it. Guitar & bass are less enthusiastic.
If you read all the newsgroup material out there, it seems that there are a
few drawbacks. Some bands complain that it does not fill a large or packed
room. It does not reproduce bass well unless each instrument has at least one
optional sub. Drummers & bass players usually use two subs. There are beginning
to be some complaints about roadworthiness. Apparently the speaker screens are
easily dented & there have been damaged speakers. Bose does seem to stand
behind their product if there are problems. There is a lot of info. out there if
you do a web search.
The system runs about $2000 for a tower & one sub. Each band member needs
a least one unit. We are considering the system for our acoustic trio, but we
have decided against it for the electric band for the time being. We are
waiting for more road reviews. The idea of completely controlling our own sound
with no monitors or soundman is very tempting. The price & the afore mentioned
limitations are holding us back.
