Re: [Harp-L] harmonica stands

I see a lot of mic stands with those flat round bases get knocked over and
making them top heavy doesn't help. That Cadillac Pete rig looks sharp but
that mic holder makes me nervous. Seems like one little bump by somebody
walking around on stage and BAM! down goes the mic, and probably the harps.
If I used it I would get a mic stand with a tripod base.

The board tied to the keyboard stand idea someone else mentioned sounded
better to me because I like a little more room than the Cadillac Pete holder
gives. But I would still would about someone knocking that board (4' long is
b-i-g) and unless there was a lip around the perimeter, making the board
more like a tray, everything on it might go flying.

I use a heavy duty sheet music stand like the one Ed mentioned ($20.00 at
Guitar Center) with a nice, stable, tripod base. I also bought a $20.00 tool
case from Menards that's about 20"x14"x6" and comes filled with a "pre-cut"
ethyl (shock absorbing packing foam) interior infill. It looks like an Anvil
case but it's really just thin aluminum over thin board. No matter, I don't
use it to transport anything, I put the harps, mics, etc in it after I set
it up on stage. I just popped-out enough squares to hold my harps and a
separate section to hold my mic when I'm not playing ( kind of like that
$200.00 stage case from Coast to Coast). I drilled four holes through the
bottom of the case and the music stand, then bolted them together. The case
had a hinged top, so I used a Dremmel and cut it loose from the bottom
section. The top now locks into position when the case is closed (and allows
me to carry the whole thing as one unit by the case handle). I take the lid
off completely and use the bottom as a tray on stage. The case is deep
enough to make me feel a little more secure about stuff not falling out.
It's real lightweight too.
The whole thing took a 1/2" hour to fabricate.
