Comparing apples and courgettes.

The Harp Commander is a class A preamp designed for Harmonica. The gain
can be turned up for classic class A amp distortion, or turned down for a
warm clean sound. It includes Bass & Hi-cut EQ, a built in compressor,
phase inversion, and a few features that ensure harmonica mics work
properly with any other gear.

The Digitech RP series are guitar effect emulators. They include several
tube amplifier emulations (ie simulations of popular classic guitar Tube
Amps), many different guitar effects (reverbs, echos, chorus, etc), several
amp cabinet emulations (8" fender cab to 4x10" bassman cab, etc), have a
wide range of dials to control and manage the sound (gain, bass, mid, high,
reverb, effects selector, cab selector, amp selection, a few different
modes how it puts the sound out, MIDI control), and can be pumped into an
amp, PA, or whatever you require.

The only simularity between them is they could both be described as
preamps, and both are versatile in how they can be used.

I used to own a POD 2.0 which isn't unlike the RP units, but I sold it
after buying my Harp Commander - despite the POD has have a huge range of
features above and beyond it. I simply prefer the tone of the HC. And for
effects I bought regular stomp pedals for echo, reverb and envelope filter.

The POD 2.0 was a great device in its time, IMO its obsolete with the other
less expensive and more powerful devices you can buy now. It was a cheap
way to try out 30 odd amplifiers, 16 cabinets and a range of effects. I
didn't have the budget or space to literally try those units. I exercised
the need to try all those toys, and found a solution that suits my needs.
I found the POD caused clipping when used with a hot microphone unless I
had volume control (or a preamp) for the mic. Having sold the POD, I've
replaced the VCs in all my bullet mics with an on/off switch.
