[Harp-L] re: Digitech vx400/rp400- improves a sound system

These units act like a conditioner for your hair, motor oil or air (trying to be descriptive, bear with me).

It does the following to improve the sound.

1) gives you control over the volume, without asking a soundman, by having a footpedal to control this.

2) the eq boosts or cuts certain frequencies which cause the harmonica to feedback or sound honky.

3) the mic modeling dramatically warms the sound and gives it presence.

4) the preamp add a nice flavor

5) the selective use of reverb or delay or chorus, or flange, etc, can give the harmonica a texture
the puts the harmonica in front of the mix and blends better with the song

6) the distortion presets, tho not as good as an amp, make bringing an amp an option, not a neccesity.

7) the set up time is five minutes for this unit. Excellent for those subway/taxi ride to gigs or just the sit in gigs. The setup is so easy. No amp to bring or complicated boxes to set up.

8) you can change all the sounds with the footswitch. Scroll through all your presets.

I am sure there are other uses but these are a few off the top of my harp head.

Randy,
What is it about the vx400 that makes vocals sound better? Is it the
compression? The EQ? Some sort of mic emulation? Rob Paparozzi mentioned
he gets stand-out vocals from the vx400, too.

hi rich,

i did another gig with a crappy pa system.............

this digitech 400 had my mic (i set up a vocal preset) that
had all the
other vocalists wondering why my mic sounded totally better than
everyone else.

and the harp sounded like a million dollars.

Rob Paparozzi emailed me that he had the same experience last week.

	Commander

I've kind of rejected this unit but I may be mistaken. This
little item
may
actually be the good choice. It's definitely affordable at
$200 which is cheaper than the Harp Commander at $240 and it
does way more.
