I don't agree with this.  Take two players.  ie: a player with
boundess knowledge of theory and harmony etc but take away his sense
of rhythm juxtapose a player with limited theory, harmony and
technical ability but give him boundless rhythmic capability and I
guarantee you that that the rhythm guy will be more appealing to an
audience...

Rhythm is something is seemingly understood by people of all
cultures, ages, ability, genre.  If humans posses any form of
instinct (debateable) then I believe it's rhythm.

Of this of it this way: why do so many of you all dislike Howard
Levy's playing oppsed to Little Walter or Kim Wilson? There is no
question who the more technically advanced player is yet Kim Wilson
will always be more appealing to a broader audience.
