Mel Bay has figured out how to sell two books rather than one :-)

This site has a lot of basic information for diatonic. Much of the basics
should be the same.

Don't know any books for chromatics, I'm sure others will suggest a few
books though.

PS: When you get around to learning how to bend, I suggest you by a key of C
diatonic. This way you won't destroy an expensive Chromatic.
