Jimmy is playing an electric guitar throughout all of these recodrings.  These were recorded by Chess records which would be about late 40's early fifties.  This was the beginning of electric blues in the Chicago area.  When the end of WWII came, it was primarily electric blues and electric guitar that was being recorded.  Some of the pre-war bluesmen of Chicago such as Bill Broonzy and Tampa Red were not performing or recording as much as before.  
Besides, with Little Walter and Big Walter playing with them is another indication that electricity had come to Chicago.
