[Harp-L] RE: Gil Scott Heron Harp Player

Hi Dave,

Interesting stuff regarding GSH and Stevie -- I didn't realize the strong connection between the two at that time.

______

you asked:
Is there a Glen Turner out there? Does anyone know him or Bital Sunni Ali?
Can any of the Stevie aficionados out there recognise any trademark Stevie trills?
______

Frankly I've never heard of Glen Turner, but then I just stumbled across a review/description of the GSH film docu called "Black Wax" (from '82.) FWIW in the description it says, "The film opens with the strong reggae flavour of 'Storm Music', courtesy of Larry McDonald's steel drums and a great Stevie Wonder-style harmonica line played by Glen Turner..."

Hmmm... :)

It's at: http://www.abc.net.au/dig/stories/s1147041.htm

Not advocating nor rejecting the accuracy of this synopsis -- heck, I've never even heard these recordings! -- but interesting that, at least according to one source, Mr Turner and Mr Wonder are stylistically comparable...

Thanks for bringing up this thread, Dave -- Now I'll have to keep my eyes open for this stuff!

all best,

Tom Ball
