[Harp-L] Re: Digest Number 1570

Charles,

The blues Jr. Runs louder with one power tube pulled out. Turn the amp off, yank out one of the EL 84's and then turn it back on.

For a cleaner sound, turn the volume knob to 12, with the preamp knob at 0. Most of the distortion sound comes from the pre-amp. In this set up, you are forcing the power tube to do more of the signal boost than the pre-amp. The pre works like your volume now. If you wanted thrash sound, you'd reverse this (preamp at 12, fixed, volume knob to control volume up and down)

Play around with one or two tubes in there for the cleanest sound you can get. Also, be aware of the mid range control. Many players choose to put bass at 12 and treble at 1, looking for more crunch. A cleaner EQ might be less extreme (assuming you don't feed back too much)

Try a different microphone, maybe as well . A green bullet sounds like a green bullet no matter what you do.

I've done a lot of toying with my blues JR, and sadly, the sucker feeds back a lot no matter what. Try some stuff, though, and see if you can't tide yourself over until you find the amp you really want.

Subject: [Harp-L] Keyboard Amps?

I've got a Fender Blues Junior but it's kind of a feedback pig -
even with tube swaps.
can't get enough volume to be heard well at the Sunday Jam -
Can't hear myself, which is really frustrating. Jam's a plug and play
situation - don't have time to mess around with EQ or feedback
eaters.

Plus I'm looking for a cleaner sound. Has anyone had luck with
keyboard amps? As everyone says, your tone is you, not your amp.
I'm wondering if I could get more volume and more dynamics
with a keyboard amp as a mini-PA?
Has anyone had experience with this?

Thanks!

Charles
