I use a folding bar stool I picked up at Walmart for about 12 bucks. I've two big strips of velcro on the seat, and two big strips of velcro on the bottom of a hohner harmonica case. The case stays solidly in place. It's cheap, portable, and works very well.

  works for me.  i wondered why nobody'd mentioned this.  in addition
  to the above benefits, you can sit on 'em when your set is over, and
  use them to fend off angry patrons if your playing is not up to snuff.
