[Harp-L] Re : You don't let a little warm weather eliminate a pay day

" I've been playing in the central Alabama area for some 30+ years now and can't ever remember missing a job for any reason. Heat and humidity seem to go hand in hand down here. We played OUTSIDE Saturday night with Hurricane Dennis outer bands bearing down on us in waves. "

Dear Steve :

Wow , and a double wow , man that is one heck of a post in so little words , I am truly impressed , it takes something special to impress this ole dog at this stage of my life with things harmonica !

Your playing for folks in the throws of a hurricane , well buddy , let me make you the first harmonica madmen inducted to Hurricane Ramón's " All Hurricane Harmonica Maniac Team " for going far and above your duty as a musician .

30 years my man , that's some mileage you got there on your harpin chassis , my respects for keeping it fresh day in and day out , years flow like a river in and through a song to people like you and me .

But - - what about digging a little deeper .

We who have been at it a long while all know it ain't the money that makes you tick inside as a musician ( sure helps though ) , what does matter is seeing the faces on people , the average type human who takes time to listen and then if your doing it right you see , dancing pop up , smiles pop up , children dancing with grown ups all about , granny's , gramps , mom's , dads and the whole of society passes before us enjoying the moment as we savor it too .

Sometimes while we play we are not showing the real side of our own personal humanity when it comes to strife , sorrow and the stresses in life that affect us , as far as the public knows we're right on dudes/dudettes looking good and sounding greater , we're the ones who help make a day a little better for some one out there who needs a little sunshine on a cloudy day ( like our brothers & sisters in the real hurricane zone ) , and if we're really lucky on stage we take the whole crowd to " church " and bring them the good news :) Even when we're sad , even when we're hurting physically , even when we're bummed out - - we do it -- and if we're lucky the whole crowd humbles us as we in turn are taken to " church " ourselves by them the crowd . It's a two way street , it is a symbiotic existence we share together in a communal way . And after a show like what I just describe - - it's a " booster shot of life " we all end up with for days to help us through our own personal
life's in this strange and sometimes cruel world we live in .

Steve , here's to ya , your my kind of musician and the first inductee to my " All Hurricane Harmonica Team " that I have met through this forum ( some how I just felt like John Madden :) and hope to meet more like you too .

I personaly would love an oppertunity to go to Iraq & Afghanistan
and entertain the troops there , who knows maybe I get my wish , talk about a group of people under stress along with our UK , Spanish , Italian , French , Egyptian , Jordanian , Isreali , Suadi , Danish , Sudanese & Italian bothers & sisters ( I know I missed a few still ) who have suffered terrorism along with us here in the USA and the great people of Iraq & Afghanistan .

On high note ---

. . . . . ¡ ¡ ¡ Go Lance Armstrong Go Fo # 7 ! ! ! . . . . . . .

Peace Blood Brother

Sincerely :

HR
