Re: [Harp-L] Recording a gig with an mp3 player

I have the iRiver and love it. It does take a few practice tries to get the
recording level correct, though. Then again, since when has it not taken a
few practice tries with any recorder since home recording was made possible.

My suggestion is to just experiment with it until you get the recording you
want in a similar situation before you try to get the show you are after.
That should give you enough information to be able to set it up easily for
the show you are after. Fortunately, it will take an external mic, line, or
uses an internal mic, so you have a lot of choices to use for your
recording; and you have the ability to immediately test the recording
atmosphere with headphones so you can make on the spot adjustments.
Warning about recording from mixing boards: Sometimes the sound is mixed
badly (right off the board) so that the sound in the hall sounds great (due
to absorbtion of frequencies, etc.), so not all recordings from sound boards
are going to come out well. The sound man should be able to help you
determine if the recording would be better from the hall or from the board.
