Re: [Harp-L] The pulse"

Excellent question and good example, here is a refinement to Dan answer,

Try it on a blow chord on 1, 2 and 3, get a fat column of air and belly laugh while blowing, never stop pushing with your lungs. The belly laugh opens and closes a trap. While closed, the air pressure rises, when it opens, the accumulated pressure comes out in a rush causing a pulsing.

(Try without the harp to chop up an er sound, by belly laughing)

If you can't belly laugh, do a machine gun imitation as far back as you can in the throat (eh sound), its not quite the right thechnique but its around there.

Draw version of that sounds considerably less cool (when I do it at least).

Pierre.

Subject: [Harp-L] The pulse"

There has been some recent talk about a 'certain' sound that some harp players can get:variously described as a pulse or beat of a vamp underlying the note
I love this sound but just can't seem to generate it to any degree even when i do the most commonly outlined method of a tongue slap,it just ain't the same.
Here is a link to what i think is a good example of the 'sound' In the first 20 seconds of the song it really comes out.
Anyone got an exact description of what michael is doing here?
I think i know, albeit i can't do it,but would love someone to actually spell it out as it were.
PS> there is some IMHO seriously good harp on this CD
