[Harp-L] Th' Legendary Shack Shakers

In the past couple of weeks I've seen Th' Legendary Shack Shakers twice, and I think many of my fellow Harp-Lers would love this band. They aren't blues...far from it, though they do cover Howlin' Wolf and Slim Harpo sometimes. The best description I could give is psychobilly with bluesy but very fast harp from the frontman, Col. JD Wilkes. The Col. also sings into his distorted Blues Blaster (which sounds very cool but makes it very hard to understand the lyrics), and he puts on some of the finest, craziest performance art I've ever seen. You know the guy is insane when he starts ripping out tufts of chest hair on stage and later brings out a pair of nunchuks to swing around during a guitar solo. Yet, offstage, he's accessible and extremely kind to fans. He signed a crusty old Marine Band of mine (the wood had swelled so much from saliva that it hurt to play, so I was ready to retire it anyway) and posed for a quick photo. If you want to hear some great harp playing in a very different kind of band, be sure to check these guys out! More info at http://www.cockadoodledont.com/. Standard disclaimer: I have no relation with the band except that I'm a newly converted fan!
