The Hotrod devilles from the factory is very harsh and brassy sounding and 
very loud.
The tube bias is usually set very high, which drives the power tubes too much 
and eventually burns them up. This can be reset by a service man. I do think 
these amps sound fine for guitar, just not Fender guitars. The reverb on these 
amps can vary from too much dwell to not enough when on 10 in the same amp, 
vertually unusable.
My favorite out of all the ones I have owned was a blues deville in 
cream/oxblood.
It eventually gave out on the circuit board, but until that day it had a 
great sound and held up for quite a long time.
