Yes. I used to use a Boss GE7 straight into the PA. It's not a tube / 
valve sound but it's a good sound that works.
Madcat Ruth takes a Boss OD1 around the world to plug in and get his 
sound.
I would guess that Piazza takes the Kinder devices to get his.
