While I was able to accompany recordings with the regular diatonics fairly well as
quite a few of the bends & licks used in blues were applicable, I can't really
find much use for the major 7th.

You should be able to follow along with the melody easier since you have an easy to play
major scale between the 2D and the 6B that only requires one bend, the 3**. If your working
on a I IV V tune, figure out the melody and really lean on the dominat chord to give it
a strong county feel. Unlike the pseudo dominant chord on Richter harps, country tuning
has the real thing on the 4-6 draw, which opens up a ton of possibilities on the V and the
turnaround. You can still play all your normal 2nd pos stuff, by simply bending the 5D down
to F, but in my opinion it doesn't sound as good as playing the melody when doing country stuff.
