Re: [Harp-L] Freddie King's "The Stumble"

this tune, like most Freddie King tunes are guitar featured tunes.
like Charles says, it¹s easy to follow along in 2nd.
my band on Guam had Freddie and Albert King nuts in it,
and this is one tune of his we did.
the crowd always loved it b/c we renamed it ³Astumbo²
a local Guam village.

i think that these F. King of songs do well to have the harp as a supporting
role,
and let the guitar do it¹s thing.
you can do unison on the refrain, choruses, etc.

i would have similar suggestions for most of other F. King songs we did--
hide away if done right by the guitarist(s), you almost want to lay out
altogether.
san-ho-say is a fine tune for harp again 2nd position.
tore down excellent for harp.

Albert Collins i actually easier for the harp to get involved first off,
no one can ever sound like Albert
so all bets are off on staying out of it. still, you can play the horn
section lines and make his tunes groove
like they should.

Just try second position - you'll be surprised how much fits - use the sixth
of the scale a lot (2 or 5 blow) - works for both the VI & II chords.
Use the 3rd (3 draw) and 5th (4 draw) for b5dim.

Anybody know this one? I usually sit this one out,
but the rest of the band thinks it would be cool to
get some harp behind it. Any suggestions for
positions or scales? The format goes:

  IV, I, VI, I, VI, V.... I, I, IV, IV, b5DIM, I, VI,
  II, V, I

I want to do some light comping, and have enough of a
feel to take a solo or two.

  Thanks.
