[Harp-L] NOTES as colors

When one truly learns, studies and understands NOTES, it encompasses scale degree which is really another way of saying "color" or "weight".  One doesn't need to know theory to begin to feel the gravity of each scale degree as "color", "shape" or whatever else connects for you.
 
Easy enough exercise - play a jam track of 12 bar blues, medium shuffle. Sustain one note at a time for as long as you can over the changes (blues scale notes, mixolydian mode notes, or whatever source you wish to explore). As the harmony changes beneath the sustained note, you will begin to get a sense of color/weight/correctness/shape/gravity or whatever you want to call it for each note. This will lead to an inherent understanding without worrying about the terminology/theory. You will educate yourself in subtle ways that will help you make better choices in the future.

My point about notes was to not think in NOTES but to think in terms in
colors.  Most harp players don't know anything about theory or notes
enough to matter so it's easier to think in terms that we all
understand.
