[Harp-L] Sad news: Chris Jones

Ben writes:
"On a much sadder note, I don't know if this has been mentioned here, but I
learned yesterday that Chris Jones, the amazing guitarist and singer who was
one of Steve Baker's long-time musical collaborator passed away in early
September. Like many musicians, he lacked a health insurance and with his
passing away, his close ones now have to cover important costs. Anyone who
wants to help in this respect should check Steve Baker's site at
_http://www.stevebaker.de_ (http://www.stevebaker.de/) for links to donation
accounts.

I, for one, mourn the loss of a great musician who deserved to be better
known."

Hey list,
I learned about Chris Jones' death a few weeks ago. I was
stunned. I met him briefly when he accompanied Steve Baker at a harp
festival a few years ago. We shared a few adult beverages & b.s.-ed a bit, but what
I NEVER forgot was his amazing guitar playing, both with Steve & at various
jams. His rhythm playing was as good as I've ever heard, & his solo breaks
were creative & soulful. It stuck in my head for years, even though most of his
recordings proved hard for me to get here in the U.S. Early this year
through the efforts of a mutual friend(thanks, Joe F.) I was finally able to get
my hands on almost everything Chris recorded. The albums with Steve Baker are
all great, & his solo stuff & the record he did with Sara K. are amongst my
favorite CDs. 'Road House & Automobiles' is a classic song & perfectly
expresses Chris' feeling about music (& mine, too.)
Chris Jones is on my short list of musicians who should be famous &
aren't. It is sad that we don't sufficiently reward talent like his. A contribution
to the above mentioned fund is a worthy gesture. Buying his CDs & spreading
his music would also be very cool.
