[Harp-L] LD Millers 90 seconds

It's 90 seconds to use however they want, but the challenge is that
anything they play has to be applied for clearances for TV and that can
be a challenge. The first round, all 3 songs they submitted didn't get
cleared in time and they had to switch the day of taping to something
the network already had clearance for. So getting a medley cleared
might not be doable. There is also the consideration of fitting in
vocals for both brothers.

Contrary to what some might guess from his previous 90 seconds, there
isn't much LD can't do, including slowing it down and feeling the blues.
It's just tough to find a piece to that has it all (slow and emotional,
powerful, fast, foot-stomping, hand-clappy energy, good vocal fit, etc.)
and whip the general masses into a frenzy all in 90 seconds. He also
normally can sit back and fit in backing up his band or others humbly,
but these TV performances are obviously about the harp being front and
center, though not the only element. But the suggestions and advice
given here are immensely helpful.

The Miller family are so grateful for all the great suggestions/advice
and they put in their top 3 choices to the network for clearances on
Friday. I cannot share what those are per TV contract, but I do know
that at least one came from suggestions on this list that they hadn't
thought of before.

They are even more grateful for all the support and encouragement. I
was telling one of the people that has been corresponding off-line the
other day that the way the harp community communicates and rallies
behind their own reminds me so much of growing up around my father's
involvement in Barbershop music. The world I live in with booking arts
venues and colleges and vegas and dealing with TV can be so
disheartening to someone that believes in the power of the Arts
sometimes. But my memories of SPEBSQSA (barbershop) was all about
MUSIC, fellowship, the pursuit of excellence, support and advancement of
an underappreciated art form, without the sense of ego, resentment or
underhandedness. I have personally been so moved by the overwhelming
number of on and off-line words of support and have shared every one
with the family. Gratefully. Nancy O.

. . . was thinking this weekend about the 90 second
question and came up with two thoughts but first a
question. Does it have to be one song for the whole 90
seconds? If not then I would recommend a medley of
three songs for max impact. A smooth transtion from
one to the other would be most effective and really
open some eyes. If it has to be one song then stick
with what he knows best and has the best feel for and
let it rip.
