[Harp-L] Maybe August CD (again)

Hi gang,

After reading some rather positive reviews (from
people I highly respect) on the new CD by Rosco
Selley's band Maybe August, I just had to check it
out.

So, I popped over to CD Baby
http://cdbaby.com/cd/maybeaugust
and bought myself a copy. (I love CD Baby!)

Anyway, I wasn't sure exactly what to expect,
having picked up so many ~incredible~ harmonica CDs
recently by players including as PT Gazell, Chris
Michalek, Jason Ricci and most recently Hazmat
Modine.

Well, I gotta tell you... "Based on Actual Events"
by Rosco and company was a truly unexpected, and
absolute musical pleasure through and through.

This is not a "harmonica CD" though there are some
~wonderful~ and well placed solos from Rosco
artfully placed throughout. Never overplayed,
always making a profound musical point. Beautiful.

But my main point is that this is a CD of really
great original music. Period.

I don't know when I've enjoyed a new CD more
thoroughly on first spin as I did this one. Great
songwriting, great playing from ALL band members,
professional arrangements and instrumentation,
fabulous (and sometimes poignant) original songs,
powerful sometimes lyrical vocals (with tons of
harmony tossed in), creative and interesting
throughout. This stuff should be getting FM airplay
across the country.

Honestly, I wasn't expecting an effort quite so
balanced, professional or just plain GOOD as this
CD. I am, quite honestly, bowled over. I'm a
believer. Maybe August is Awesome!

Rosco, I hope you're reading this... WOW!

Someone on this list said this was a "must-have" CD
for harp players... What an understatement. I think
this is a must-have CD for anyone interested in
relevant music.

Okay... I'm gushing too long.

Harpin' in Colorado,
--Ken M.

Rosco, if you're coming to SPAH, I wanna buy you a
drink!! :-)
