I do use the bend notes on the overblow. Mostly to emulate
embelishments that saxophone players do and that are too fast to
play switching betweeen holes.

I use what you describe to play the melody of Moanin' where you
would have a fast switch between the 7 draw and the 6ob.
There I start on the halfstep bend overblow and then
go down to the overblow. B to Bb on the c harp.

I am working on doing this more so yes I bother
with it and I think it is very usefull.
I do think that you need to be able to bend the
overblow a lot further than the note you want
to play before you can play that note solidly.
