I agree. Great panel discussion and great playing as well. All of those guys are strong purveyors of excellent tone, regardless of their embouchure and that's what made that discussion particularly interesting for me.

I've always been a purser and Dennis really got me thinking about TB a few years ago. I really don't use it enough yet in most cases for it to be effective in my attack, but I have learned that my embouchure needs to change somewhat to accomodate its use. That realization has helped me refine my tone.

I learn a lot from other players on how to access notes from different strategies and methods (e.g. bends, overblows, blowbends, varied positions, etc), but good tone sometimes gets overlooked in the search for the notes. Having said that, what I noticed most about all those guys when they were playing was not so much the notes they were playing and how they were getting those notes; but rather, their consistent delivery of pure, deep tone.
