Question(s) :
ø What was the inspiration ?

The piece was composed by Leo Brouwer, from Cuba. I've always loved the stuff he wrote when he was young... it's almost hyper-romantic. I'd heard it played on a nylon string and it was lovely, but because the piece is so slow I felt it might be even more successful on steel-strings, given the tonal characteristics and opportunity for natural sustain. It came out well -- i got lucky.

ø What kind of recording situtation ( mic , studio ect , munchies ) ?

Recorded on ProTools at Riviera Studios, Santa Barbara. Recorded onto three channels, then mixed down to two. Main mic: Neumann U-87 positioned about 7" from the soundhole. Second mic: small AKG condenser (I forget which model) placed about 3" from the 12th fret. Third mic in the back of the room, picking up room ambience (i.e. natural reverb.)

1936 Gibson PG-00, converted to a 6-string in 1981 by Jim Lombard. (For a pic & more details, see: http://www.sitekreator.com/havaball/gibson.html ) Ugly guitar, great sound.
