Let's look at this in a different light.

I play very little anymore (about once a month) and I'll admit to being one
of those shcmucks. When I use to play the reg club scene, rates here were
prox $300-500 a nite and you split it even. My cut was 75 - 250 a nite, my
wife got half of my share (as bribe money for letting me out of the house)
and I spent 100% of the rest on whatever I wanted!!had a day job!!. That
would make my disposable income 50%. I would be willing to bet most full
time pro-musicians only wish they could net 50% of their earnings. So, on
that note, being a shcmuck doesn't sound quite so bad.
