[Harp-L] Update on Filisko's harp Class at the Old Town School of Folk Music

Dear List -

I don't post much to Harp-L, but there has been some
wild stuff happening at Filisko's class at the OTS of
Folk Music in Chicago that might interest members of
the list. Joe has been convincing some of the world's
top blues harp players to stop by on Monday nights to
share their wisdom (and music). In the past month,
Filisko has hosted Billy Boy Arnold, Kim Wilson and
Steve Guyger (Mr. Guyger brought Billy Flynn along -
What a duo with Guyger's huge tone and Billy's old
school guitar and mandolin!). In past months, Gary
Primich, Dennis Grueling and Rick Estrin have made
appearances. Of course, this is all in addition to
Joe's yeoman work - he transcribes tunes, plans
curriculum and works with us harmonica nerds with
great energy and enthusiasm.

When the guest harp players show up, the scene is
mind-boggling. The classroom is in the basement of
the building; it has "legal capacity" of 18 humans. I
think we had close to 40 people jammed in when Guyger
came to visit. Including Buzz Krantz! Ohmigod!

Chicago is a great place for a harp player, and
Filisko's class at OTS is a major reason why.

Mr. G
