[Harp-L] RE: Latin-Mix Harp Tunes

My song "What About Your Man" has a kind of Latin groove:

This song utilizes a mix of 4th and 5th position harp playing (I also occasionally throw in some 3rd position when playing it live). I play Latin music (with actual Latin bands) as often as possible and really love it. I also used to cover Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White a lot; I think this is a great and unique way of playing a Latin song on the harp (and should give pause to anyone who thinks Kim Wilson is a Little Walter clone). For further listening, I suggest Dave Spalding's excellent harp work with Poncho Sanchez.

I thought it would be interesting to explore some tunes that have a
Latin or "Spanish Tinge" to quote Winton Marsalies.
1: Cherry Pink and Apple Blossum White (Kim Fields covers this with
the Fabolous Thunderbirds)

2: La Cucurachia The Great Walter Horton did wonders with this
tune

3: Chan Chan Charlie Musselwhite covers this and more on his
Continential Drifters CD (Eliades Ochoa and
                                   Groupo Patria)

4: Just a Little Bit Billy Branch does this as a "Rhumba" and it
works really.

Blowing and overblowing on the 6 and 7th holes you get some notes that
work with Latin Rhythms.

Anyone have any thoughts?
