[Harp-L] Re: Harp-L Digest, Vol 33, Issue 2

    Hi Cathy,
I think almost every musician or
actor has gone through what you're experiencing. Trust
me, I have many, many times. It's just a little
challenging to expose yourself like this. I think two
things are very helpful to keep in mind : 1) instead
of focusing on other people and how they perceive
you-focus only on what you're doing-you can't be
responsible for others' reactions only what you do.
It's like a dance
between yourself and the audience. The more you get
into what you're doing the more compelling and
engaging you'll be. What could be more fascinating
than seeing a talented artistic person lost in their
musical world allowing the fortunate onlooker a
glimpse into her fiery soul ? 2) Know what you're
doing- if you're fumbling around or making a lot of
mistakes or sending off body language of uncertainty
this will make you and the audience uncomfortable. If
you're not ready,
don't perform until you are. When you are strong then
you can experience the wonderful rush of synergy that
comes with a great performance and an audience eating
up of morsel you dish out.

      Good luck,

                       Chris
