[Harp-L] cheap harps

Cheap or not, I would take a Big River harp over just about anything else in the Hohner catalogue. I prefer them; I believe Pat Ramsey and Paul Delay do also. Was at a jam a few months ago run by the reclusive Dave Waldman, one of the best blues harpists around, and I noticed that he was using Big Rivers. To me; that model has a little extra volume and a crackle or a bark to it that I don't hear from Special 20's, Golden Melodies, Lee Oskars and other brands. I think alot of players drifted over to them from Marine Bands. I'm an aggressive, high-compression player and the Hohner Big River is my main squeeze. I don't think spending more money on a harp neccessarily guarantees a better sound---at least in this case. And they hold up just fine, by the way.
