Re: Subject: [Harp-L] What's the best sounding and simplest wireless mike

I have several inexpensive Nady wireless "instrument" units, Wireless One, and a Wireless 3D diversity. Both are VHF. The sound is excellent, and the coverage is adequate. The Wireless Ones are single ended receivers. The Wireless 3D is diversity (dual antennas, dual receiver front ends, and a "voting" circuit to choose the best signal), and is supposedly better at minimizing dropouts. In practice, I find their coverage to be almost the same as the Wireless One.

Nady uses "compandoring" to pretty much eliminate transmitter/receiver hiss. "Compandor" is a combination of "compressor" and "expander". It compresses volume at the transmitter (automatically turns the volume up or down to keep it constant), and expands volume at the receiver to restore the original volume variations. This masks FM receiver noise that would otherwise be audible when playing very softly.

I chose Nady because they use compandoring. They've worked very well, and reliably. The sound is great. My only problem thus far has been the transmitter cables. After years of hard use and abuse, they wear out.

If you've got the money, get a digital spread spectrum wireless. If you're on a budget, I think you'll be happy with a cheap Nady wireless.

Make sure to coordinate frequencies with other band members. Each wireless MUST be on its own channel.

i personally own both the sampson and the akg wireless snap on wireless units. I wish I had not bought the sampson.

even after sending my sampson back for recalibration, the AKG unit is MUCH better than the sampson.

skip the sampson, get the akg.
