Re: [Harp-L] Re: Bose PAS rig

If you do a search on harp-l for "BOSE PAS", in the last few months I've posted at length about this system, answering most of the questions you ask.

I've used the full system, including 2 subs, for many situations, inside and out. The maximum was using the system for the smooth jazz band I play in - trumpet, sax, keys, bass drum, line out of the bass guitar, conga mics - all coming through the system. It sounded crystal clear, but definitely had a ceiling in regards how hard it could be driven with all these inputs.

When going for my own unique harmonica sound, I'll play directly into the system, using only a delay pedal for a bit of echo.

I've mic'd amps and used the direct out from Brian Purdy's Harpgear amp through the BOSE. Never a feedback issue. The "balls" would depend on the amp you use - it reproduces the sound quite nicely, thank you.

It is a marvelous solution to all the complaints and problems inherent with sound reinforcement.

It is a tool. You have to use your imagination and learn with it. It will give you almost anything you desire sound wise.

I dragged it everywhere with me the first year I owned it, using it in all types of situations and learning as I went. What a blast.

Used for vocals and harmonica, I promise that the basic tower would work fantastic - you won't need the sub woofer unless you've got a real DEEP voice or LOW TUNED harmonica. You will also be able to hear yourself clear as a bell, over the guitars, etc, without strain or feeling like you have to blow your insides out. This allows much more creative singing and playing with less effort.

BOSE system sets up behind the harp amp, behind the musicians, as it is used as PA and monitor. I like to set it up about 8 feet behind the drummer if possible.

Set up/breakdown takes less than 5 minutes. It breaks apart into smaller pieces w/cases that don't weigh anything near what a bassman does.

i wonder, iceman, when you use the bose pas as your harp rig ( mic'ing your harp amp of choice ) is that the only thing the pas is used for? in other words, nobody else uses the pas? and it's not used for vocals or anything but the harp amp? how many pas towers do you use with it? isn't the sound lacking in balls compared to a nice tilted back fender bassman? do you have the sub that goes with it? where do you put the pas tower in relation to you and your harp amp? as far as " no lugging a bassman around" isn't lugging around and setup/takedown of the PAS just as much if not more involved than just setting up a bassman ? i think it is a really cool system, i would like to steal one.
