Fwd: [Harp-L] Questions about Special 20's and Golden Melody's

The reedplates for the Golden Melody and the Special 20 are not the
same, and Kinya did not say that they are. What he actually wrote was
"the reed sets are identical." What he meant was that the reeds
themselves are the same sizes and shapes. What he did not entirely
make clear is that the reedplates themselves differ in size, shape,
and hole punching (Ijust did a direct comparison). One could not be
made to fit the other without huge alteration.

It would be far easier just to retune some of the reeds on a Golden
Melody to match the Special 20 tuning.

I was recently reading Kinya Pollard's Harmonica Workbench article
fromt he October 2003 issue of Harmonica Sessions. He mentions that
the reed plates for the Special 20 and Golden Melody are identical
except for tuning.

I prefer the tuning of the Special 20 but prefer the shape of the
Golden Melody. Could I just swap reed plates?

Make you wonder why they do not sell interchangable reed plates for
these two models?
