ROBERT BONFIGLIO
"America's Leading Harmonica Virtuoso"
MAKES HIS NATIONAL SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA DEBUT

Robert Bonfiglio, called "America's leading harmonica virtuoso" by the New York Post, 
makes his Kennedy Center debut with the National Symphony Orchestra Pops in a set of concerts beginning November 24, 2006.  The concerts, Strike Up the Band: A Gershwin Brothers Celebration, will take place in the Kennedy Center Concert Hall on Friday, November 24, 2006, at 1:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., and on Saturday, November 25, 2006, at 8:00 p.m. Principal Pops Conductor Marvin Hamlisch will lead the concert; soloists also include Kevin Cole, whom the Chicago Tribune called "the best Gershwin pianist in America today", and Christiane Noll, a soprano the New York Times described as "glistening" and "delectable".

Mr. Bonfiglio possesses skills that are "something you have to hear to believe" because "you wouldn't have thought it possible" according to the Boston Globe.  The consummate performer has appeared at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and the Hollywood Bowl with unique interpretations that blend classical, pop, folk and blues forms. 

This performance features works of brothers George and Ira Gershwin.  Highlights include Rhapsody in Blue, "Someone to Watch Over Me" from Oh Kay!, and An American in Paris, as well as a medley in tribute to the Gershwin brothers.
